Taxi Transfers To and From Vienna International Airport

Once you have arrived at Vienna International Airport (VIE) and collected your entire luggage from the baggage claim area it's time to proceed to your choice of transfer from the airport. Transfer options present at the airport include rental cars, buses, trains and taxis.

Vienna International Airport (VIE) has several terminals, 1, 1A, 2, and 3 (as well as the VIP and General Aviation Terminal). Terminal 2 is mainly used for arriving flights while the other terminals are used mainly for departing flights.

Taxis and Limousines at Vienna Airport

Taxis - Official taxis are available at the taxi rank located outside the airport's arrivals area. The taxi fleet includes eco-friendly hybrid vehicles, as well as regular vehicles, and it is also possible to use one of the limousine services available.

It is recommended to only use taxis from the taxi rank located directly in front of the terminal or via the City Transfer counter located in the arrivals hall.

The reason for the recommendation is that sometimes travelers are approached and offered taxi services by someone in the arrivals hall, but these businesses are conducted illegally and they do not have the required business licence for servicing the airport. The recommendation to only use the official taxis available are therefore in the travelers best interest to make sure that they are not overcharged or end up in a situation where insurances do not cover an incident.

Limousines - There are a handful of taxi and limousine services available at the airport and while taxis are available for walk-ups the limousine services usually require a pre-order to be used as transfer from the airport.

Taxi and Limousine services are available 24/7 at Vienna International Airport (VIE).

The trip from the airport to central Vienna will take from 20 minutes up to an hour depending on the exact location of the destination and traffic at the time of the journey. Normal time to reach the city center is around 30 minutes.

The fare for a single journey from the airport to the center of Vienna city is approximately 30-50€, to Bratislava it's 70-100€, and to Brno it is from 160-200€, again depending on the exact location of the destination and the traffic during the journey.

Rideshares at Vienna Airport

Several Ridesharing companies, such as Uber, Free Now and Bolt are present to serve travelers with transfers from the airport. These transfers are requested through the chosen company's smartphone application.

Download the app on your device, register and choose a pick-up location. The fares for a one-trip journey to the city center of Vienna will vary from company to company, but range from 20€ to 60€. The fare for a journey will usually be displayed in the application before the customer accepts the ride. The exact location for collection will be provided in the application upon requesting the transfer.

Usually it is best to request the ride once the traveler has landed, been through customs, and has collected their entire luggage.

Carsharing at Vienna Airport

Carsharing is possible at Vienna Airport through Share Now. Vehicles that are part of the carsharing service are located on level 0 in multi-storey Car Park 3. The car park can be reached via a short underground passage that is covered and protected from the weather.

Carsharing is a model of car rental service where users have been pre-approved to drive. Vehicles are rented for short periods of time. Collection and return of a vehicle takes place at certain points, and it may be inconvenient if a drop-off point isn't anywhere near the destination, but it may be convenient if it is.

The fare for carsharing is usually costly for frequent users.
